Squash at a European level this year in Warsaw

The best squash players from several European countries are going to meet this year in Warsaw at the eighth European Team Championships. The European Nations Challenge Cup 2010 (ENCC) tournament will take place at Kahuna Club courts between 30th September to 3rd October 2010.

The ENCC tour championships are team championships with the participation of countries where squash flourishes as a competitive sport. This year, we are going to watch matches with the participation of 24 three person squads, including 16 men and 8 ladies’ squads.

“The ENCC tournament is a major squash event of international ranking which Polish supporters will have a chance to watch at home courts”, says Mr. Sławomir Nowisz from the Kahuna Club, hosting this year’s European Cup matches. We are going to see the representatives of Poland among the best European players, including our national champions: Wojtek Nowisz and Dominika Witkowska”, adds Mr. Nowisz.

The ENCC Cup is quite a challenge for competitors. Each meeting consists of three matches, where the players continue until 3 sets are won, and the score in each set is 11 points. The winning squad is the one which has won the most matches. On day one and day two, the squads are going to compete in the group phase, and then there will be a day of finals, when the best teams will compete for medals, playing in the cup system. Such an arrangement of matches means that the winners will have to prove they are truly fit.

ENCC competitions bring good associations to Polish supporters. The Polish national team had its first success at the international tournament in 2003, when the men’s team took the third place. Then, more success came in 2006 and 2008 when the ladies’ team won silver medals, and in 2007, when the ladies took the third place in the tournament. Last year the men’s team took the 7th, and the ladies’ team took the 4th place.
